The Importance of Information Technology Training from a Management Perspective

Information technology training for IT managers and systems analysts may seem superfluous – these folks are usually well-learned in their areas of expertise. But, do they understand how a company’s technology fits into the bigger picture from a business perspective? That’s where management training becomes important. Every manager who plays a role in researching, selecting or implementing enterprise technology needs to have a firm grasp on the basics of emerging technologies, as well as how they serve a larger business purpose, to ensure that technology is being used to the company’s best strategic advantage.

Stay Current on Revolutionary, Emerging Technology Applications

A program of continual information technology training is crucial to the success of any IT team. Technology is constantly evolving, and it seems that there is a new application released every day that is meant to simplify doing business. This can be overwhelming if you do not stay current on the high-level trends of technology and their corresponding impact on business. With the Web 2.0 revolution in full swing, management training is a useful tool for managers to become familiar with the online trends such as blogs, wikis, podcasts and RSS feeds, as well as how the trends are going to change the ways we view the Internet and communicate with each other. It is estimated that these technologies will have significant business impact in the coming years, and companies everywhere have to consider directly how it affects their business strategies.

Information technology training can help managers determine the impact of new technologies and how to adapt their business processes. Trying to envision how Web 2.0 changes traditional business models is difficult when you have no knowledge of how these new technical applications are being used from a business perspective. First and foremost, managers must take it upon themselves to become proactive by keeping abreast of emerging trends and understanding them not only from a technical standpoint, but evaluating them from a higher-level, strategic standpoint. Management training courses on technology focus specifically on the ways that emerging technologies affect businesses on a high level. This is the type of knowledge needed to make conscious and informed decisions on what aspects of new technologies will affect your organization in the next few years and transition your thoughts into strategic action and implementation.

Collaboration and information sharing, within and outside of enterprises, are two areas that have made huge strides that management training can help your organization harness to improve business strategies. The advent of user-created content sharing has transformed the way that enterprises communicate. Enterprise-class blogs and wikis boost productivity and innovation by enabling ad hoc teams to participate in complex, collaborative problem solving, and then make the results available to the rest of the organization with ease. Information technology training gives managers the high-level information about these technologies that they need to bring them effectively into your organization.

Large companies will often struggle the most with adopting new business strategies based on emerging technologies due to organizational inertia and the lag that comes from changing any integrated system. Not only do the right people need to be convinced of the value of a new application, but the proper infrastructure often needs to be developed or tweaked to implement the technology. This is where the importance of management information technology training to understand the potential impact of technology from a business perspective comes into play.

Management Training for Appropriate Technology Selection and Recommendation

Management training courses typically deal with logistics and personnel management but fail to guide managers when it comes to making decisions about technology. As a manager in today’s world, what really matters isn’t just your ability to lead and maintain technology infrastructure – it’s your ability to deliver positive business outcomes. Cutting IT costs and managing infrastructure are only part of the equation. Technology must also reduce business risk and generate new opportunities and growth. Information technology training can help managers transition their views of technology as an isolated island off the coast of a business and look at it as one working part of the whole machine that is the organization.

Finding a cool application that has all the shiny bells and whistles you dreamed of and recommending implementation based on the technology’s sheer innovation is no longer enough to make a good business case. Before presenting a recommendation, you must understand every step involved with the successful implementation of the technology. A thorough study will need to be conducted to determine what departments, processes and functions will need to be modified in order to benefit from the new technology. Management training courses focusing on information technology gives managers the tools they need to make that determination.

If you are going to make an impact on the decision makers of a business, you have to get on their level. When it comes down to making a decision, for many business people it is all about the numbers. That is why it is essential to participate in information technology training courses that help you perform your due diligence and gather the data you need to compile hard numbers around your recommendation. What is the true return on investment that the company can expect to achieve by implementing the technology? It is much easier to convince an associate of the merits of your idea if you can show a real increase in profit based on proven research instead of attempting to sway them based on opinion only.

50% Of Bing Searchers Click the First Page – First Result

This week the Vice President of R&D at Bing, Dr. Harry Shum, released some interesting changes and facts regarding Bing’s search engine results page. The first being that the search engine results page (SERP) was going to be more ‘dynamic.’ The second is the percentage of search users that click on the first search result versus the 3rd, 4th and so forth.

During his research of how users were using the SERP, Shum found that the standard ten links on the results page was “not the most useful way to present results; rather, we [will] adapt the search results page dynamically.” What this means is that instead of getting ten results when you search a query, you can get as little as four results for a search. For example, in the screen shot below, I simply searched “NYSE” and I only saw five results.

One of the more interesting things about the dynamic search results page is that if you do click on a link, and then click the back button you will get more results on the SERP. The results of more links being available once the user has clicked the back button “showed that the click-through rate on lower positions are a factor of five to eight times higher after a back button.”

Who’s Clicking on First?

The experiment also showed that more than 50% of searchers click on the first page, first result. With that said, if the first result includes deep links, then of those 50% more than 75% of them click on the deep links. After the 50% that click on the first result, we see a dramatic dive in the percent of people, 4-6%, that click on the 3rd result and further more, only 2-3% of searchers click on the 4th result. It is with these percentages that Bing decided to make the search results page dynamic.

Similarly to Google, who officially shifted from the 10 results per page to the 7 results per page earlier this year, Bing is making a shift that will directly affect your business and your websites ranking. Further more, the facts that are presented in this study, the one that indicates that 50% of searchers click on the first result on the first page, make a more compelling case for SEO services. As a business you already know the importance of visibility and a search engine optimization firm can help you get there, but now with Bing’s dynamic results page fewer search results and the hard facts that 50% of people are clicking the first result it makes being page one, number one, even more important

So You Want Results? Here Is the Formula

As I was talking to my client, Sarah, she is complaining that she is working very hard and is not getting the results she wants. So, we get into a conversation about why that is and discover that she was doing great, producing the results she wanted in her business for months, and then… she simply stopped doing the activities she was doing that led to the results in the first place. Light bulb moment… she said, “I thought I did enough and now I could just coast!”. When she saw that ‘coasting’ cost her results, the fix was easy and turned her business results back around.

I find this is a common scenario and in all the work I do with my clients about their success, I have identified a formula that works brilliantly. Here is what I have identified and what you can do to produce results.

First, I know that most likely you ‘know’ this, but it is critical that you operate with this principle in mind: The only things that produces results is Action. Good intentions, good thoughts, wanting, thinking about it, hoping, does not produce results. Really. The only thing that produces actual, tangible results is action. Once you get yourself settled about that fact, the other 3 things that result in a failure to produce results are a function of:

Customer Plus Service Equals Profits

Before we discuss customer service in this article, let’s first address the essential purpose of business. Admittedly, for most people the purpose of business is to make money. In fact, this assertion is validated by the renowned economist Milton Friedman, who observed that the only purpose of business was to maximize profits for its owners. While this may be the first interpretation for many, I am of the unequivocal belief that there must be a dramatic paradigm shift in business for those within it to be both competitive and profitable. As opposed to that outdated and purely monetary function of a business, I would like to humbly suggest a different purpose: to add value to the lives of our customers through the time that we save them, the money that we help them to keep, or the use of our product or service to make their lives easier or better. By setting out to sincerely add value to our customers’ lives we will invariably make money. To do this consistently and effectively, we must be clear about our purpose in order to make proper decisions within our sales and customer service efforts. In this article, I’d like to suggest some ideas on how we can better service our customers and in return make more money than we ever dreamed of, while building lasting relationships that may continue for generations to come.

First, we must keep in mind that without the customer we have no business. The only way for a business to have any real viability is for it to consistently and willingly serve the purchasing decisions of its customers. It’s essential for us to see the customer as the most vital part of the whole business structure. The most basic aspect of this point of view is that customers are people just like you and I, they are often looking for the same things we are looking for: a great value, a trusted salesperson or service provider, and a great product or service. Conversely, if our products and services have no real use in the marketplace our potential customers’ disinterest will show. Listening to and evaluating feedback from customers helps a business improve and refine its products and services.

Secondly, let’s focus on an important piece in the customer service equation, the actual manner and commitment with which we give service. Many salespeople and service providers are lazy when it comes to this part of their interaction. They are relieved to have the sale but reluctant to effectively manage the relationship afterwards. Indeed, I myself am all too familiar with the pressures to procure new business, but I am equally aware that the true longevity of today’s businesses will only come as a result of their services being thoughtfully and positively rendered to their current customers. Properly maintained customer service relationships can result in both lifetime customers and vital multiple referrals generated by them. This kind of great service comes down to successful communication. Customers have to know without a shadow of doubt that they can trust their service provider to follow-up on every detail to make sure that their purchase is being fulfilled as promised. In the event there are complications or problems, customers appreciate honest and sincere efforts to correct those things immediately. I often suggest to sales people to see themselves as their customer, then to consider what kind of service they would expect, having made a purchase decision based on dealing with a trustworthy service provider representing a reputable company. Making things psychologically and emotionally personal allows an emphatic approach to customer service, one that most often results in genuine satisfaction and gratitude, as well as regular return business and referrals.

Forex Cross Rates Help With Foreign Currency Trading

Forex Cross Rates is a term used in trading foreign currency. The word Forex is simply an accepted way of distinguishing a foreign exchange versus a U.S. market. Foreign exchanges trade currency, stocks, bonds and options. Foreign exchanges trade similar to the exchanges in the U.S., however you must be aware that quotes are given in the foreign currency of that country, and one unit of their currency may be of less or more value than the U.S. dollar. Foreign exchange rules differ from U.S exchange rules. You should be familiar with the rules of the exchange or deal with a broker who has experience with that particular foreign exchange. Free FOREX trading videos daily.

In the past, a trader who wished to exchange his money into a currency from a different country would have to first convert it into U.S. dollars and then convert it to the type of currency he wanted. This is now bypassed by using a cross currency trade. A cross currency trade can take place between any two currencies, which do not involve the U.S. dollar. A EUR/JPY trade would mean paying Euros for yen; it would also be classified a cross trade.

The Rate is the quote on the currency being traded. In other words, in the example above, the rate might be 1.00/0.009; one yen is worth.009 of a euro. Since neither of these currencies is a U. S. dollar, this is an example of a cross rate when quoted in a U.S. newspaper. If either of the currencies involved were the U.S. dollar, it would not be a cross rate quote.

Forex cross rates are used by experience traders to judge values of the currencies in each country and to make a decision on whether, or not, to make that trade. Foreign trading can be difficult due to the exchange rates of monies between the countries. Values of currency can change rapidly. Currency trading does not take place on a regulated exchange but rather is done on credit agreements between traders and trading takes place around the clock, every day of the week. Experience and knowledge regarding these markets is needed to be a successful trader.

Now that you have all that information you will want to get the best and most up to date information on Forex Currency []. That is how you stay ahead of everyone else and learn what the new opportunities are and will soon be. Find the best resources you can and go back to them over and over again to use to your advantage. There is inherent risk in trading Forex and you will want to do your best to reduce these risks and maximize your success rate.

Pathetic To See Cricket Analysis On Indian News Channels

Rubbish is the word that sums up the analysis of cricket World Cup and cricket related issues on Indian news channels. The Indian media goes overboard on cricket-related discussions. There is exaggeration of praise for some players when they do something brilliant. Some players are called ‘Gods’ who are not as mighty as many of the human beings or their contemporaries. Whenever something goes wrong, the news channel simply go overboard in criticizing the players. The so called experts, most of whom are former cricketers too, sound immature most of the time in their analysis.

It is a festival whenever India achieves a victory, and that is well and good. But it is an absolute doom whenever India performed badly and this World Cup is no exception. Before the contest between India and England, there was so much hype around the game. The prediction of the experts rarely come true. I did not see many experts picking England favorites for the game. Sidhu gave India 80% chance of winning the game between England and India. In fact England came very close to winning the contest despite losing the toss and having to chase a big total. Eventually they managed a tie.

The scenes were contrasting on the News Channels after the tie between India and England. The cricketers who were being celebrated in advance as likely heroes who would won India the game till before the match began were heavily criticized after the contest concluded. If Indian cricketers have watched the the program in which their performance Versus England was evaluated and criticized, I cannot imagine the kind of effect that would have on these Indian cricketers and how it would effect their performance in rest of the World Cup tournament.

What is more painful is the way Indian media started celebrating an Indian victory even before the start of the World Cup 2011. Some people want it for Sachin Tendulkar. Steve Waugh sharply criticize the very need to win the World cup for an individual cricketer. He rightly said that India should win it for the county and not for an individual cricketer. How can India call a cricket as a God who could not get a single World Cup for his country despite being one of the few to represent the country in as many as five edition. Moreover if one has to celebrate an Indian victory in advance why is the competition held and what is the purpose of other teams participating in the tournament.

Being patriotic and ambitious is one thing, but you got to be rational in your thought process and approach. It is often embarrassing to see the Indian media asking some irrational questions to the foreign cricketers. These foreign cricketers are more professional and from an entirely different culture. The Indian media being ridiculously obsessed with their cricketers during the analysis involving the foreign cricketers makes one feel abashed.

Cable News With An Agenda – Is That Fake News Too?

It is amazing the history of free press suppression amongst those who want to take or remain in control. And more than one philosopher has noted that; He Who Owns The Media, Owns The Minds Of The People. Today we see Silicon Valley, namely Google and Facebook wanting to eliminate what they call “Fake News” from their websites, namely Google News and Facebook’s News Feed. Of course, this presents a rather slippery slope – one of mass censorship. Indeed, both companies have been caught suppressing right-wing news and enhancing positive news towards left-leaning politicians.

In Washington DC, there is work to prevent Fake News in the media or online to keep foreign governments from trying to subvert our elections or poison the minds of our people from propaganda. Still, it is obvious by the mainstream media’s reporting on this effort in Washington DC that the target is right-wing alternative online news. The mainstream media is worried that it is losing millions of viewers, thus huge amounts of advertising revenues due to online news sites – competition they’d prefer not to have. Are all these forces; the mainstream media, Democrat Party, and major Internet social networks and search engines converging to control the our information and control the minds of the masses?

Well, if history is any judge, then the answer is yes. All dictatorships, communist countries, and even the NAZI regime worked very hard to control the news. Even the terrorists, spies and nation-states that sponsor terrorism use the news for propaganda.

There was an interesting article in Foreign Affairs published on January 7, 2014 titled; “Al Jazeera’s ‘False News’ Problem,” by Judy Bachrach. The way I see this is that every news agency has an agenda, and one hell of a lot of power owning the minds of the people. When discussing this at our think tank, one thinker noted;

“The author of that article placed Israel right near the central fulcrum of their judgement, then gives a contradictor closing, then sums it up this way: 1. Can’t blame them for abusing journalist who lie,
2. Guess, I should side with the liars because 2nd Amendment says – it is their right to lie.”

The think tanker type notes that this is dangerous emotional banter, rather than facts and states he’d rather read something about the American Networks because he often has to go to BBC, and other media outlets to get the real news.

Wow, now those are some interesting comments indeed. Still, when I look at news media like RT (Russian TV) it often has a negative slant towards the US, sometimes they are right and make us look in the mirror, sometimes it’s just persnickety negative diatribes. More like a clock, right a couple of times per day. Al Jazeera America, I believe is often better than RT, but not when it comes to Middle East sectarian issues, they are all one-way also. RT is generally leftist slant, makes sense. Modern day news, well it takes a sharp eye and commitment to read between the type, bullet points and sound bites.

When we look at FOX News they lean right, and CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, all lean to the left and seem to be out to attack anything on the right. So, I ask; what is really FAKE NEWS – folks – it’s all fake news, that’s my take.

The Top 7 Questions Small Businesses Ask About Social Media

Presence on social media is gaining importance as more and more small businesses are realizing the benefits they can gain from it. They are increasingly using platforms such as Google+, Facebook, and Twitter, to mark their presence in social media.

Those who are not yet used to the effect internet has had on marketing, are daunted by the technology of social media marketing. They find comfort in doing business the traditional way, in the safety of a building.

Novelty seems intimidating in the beginning, until you explore it. Similarly, small businesses have concerns for which they require reassuring answers. More and more people are accepting social media and small businesses are realizing that its presence is not temporary.

The following are the most frequently asked questions of small businesses. Maybe one of the questions below will address any of your concerns:

1. What is Social Media Marketing?

Communicating with stakeholders through social networking platforms such as Twitter, Google+ and Facebook, is called Social Media Marketing.

You use the pages made on social networking sites to share information about your business, customer feedback, guidelines for using your products/services etc. By doing this, you not only allow the customers to get to know you better but provide a platform to them to share their opinions also. All this helps in building relationships with customers.

2. Why does my business need to get involved?

Business and marketing has become fast paced due to the increased access to information. Customers get real-time information through their smart phones and tablets. In today’s era, customers want convenience; therefore, they expect your business to be present online.

By having a presence your business will:

  • Be readily available online
  • Be able to introduce/promote products and services
  • Be able to strengthen bond with present customers
  • Be able to capture potential customers
  • Be able to enhance customer traffic through social interaction.

As your presence increases through your online interaction such as likes, posts, comments, tweets, it will have the added advantage of increasing your search engine rankings.

3. HELP! I don’t know where to start

Social media marketing works the same way as traditional marketing. Begin with a plan and chart out your goals and objectives for the campaign.

Losing focus is easy when you are marketing using social media. A well laid-out plan will assist you in concentrating.

4. How much time should I spend on each platform each day?

When you concentrate on the target, you need not spend excess time on social media marketing. It does not demand much time. As long as you remain focused, 10 to 20 minutes, twice a day would suffice in running a profitable marketing campaign.

5. When should I post?

Your timing should depend upon the schedule of your target audience. Research into the lifestyle of your target audience follows and post accordingly. For instance, if you were targeting business-people or the working-class, morning would be the best time to post. They mostly check updates on their way to work. Similarly, communicate during lunch-hour as well as after office hours, when they will be travelling back home.

You can post mid-morning, afternoon and evening if your target audience is the non-working or the retired individuals. As you learn more about social media marketing and your audience, you will become better at your timing. You will have to monitor the responses your posts generate (or do not generate) and see what timing generates the most responses.

6. Which platform should I use?

Out of the numerous options, keeping the usage in mind, Facebook is the apparent choice. It already has more than 1 billion users; and the number is growing daily.

Most of the people on Facebook are regular users, checking updates throughout the day. The diversity of users makes it a good platform for small businesses to be able to use varied advertising options. Tweets are gaining popularity. People follow tweets more than they follow the news, since it is faster. So that is another good option for you.

You need to be able to communicate effectively in limited words, because tweets’ characters are limited to 140. Considering the enormity of information people sift through online, the character limitation is in line with the short attention span of people. People do not read details, they just overview.

It’s worth mentioning 3 relatively platforms gaining popularity.

  • One of the visual platforms is Pinterest. It allows the uploading and sharing of photos concerning any possible subject. Starting off by capturing the interest of female audience, the platform has now started capturing the interest of male audience as well.

  • The second one, Google+ (Google+) is also in the phase of stretching its branches in social media. Google+ with the advantage of strong financial backing of its giant owner Google is expected to contest Facebook in becoming the leading social network.

  • The third one, LinkedIn is popular as a platform for professionals. It allows for business-to-business interaction and is brilliant for connecting with colleagues and building professional network.

There are other social media platforms present, but these are the ones on top of the list.

7. How much does it cost?

It costs in terms of time. So, even if you are a small business with no or limited marketing budget, no need to worry, all you have to do is take out time. However, if your budget allows for moderate spending on marketing, then you can spend on placing advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook. This would increase reach of your business at an affordable cost.

Remember, this list is not exhaustive of all the possible frequently asked questions small businesses might have or the answers to those questions. Just like traditional marketing, successful social media marketing demands customization as per your business, degree of competition, target audience, industry, budget, time and other factors affecting your business.

Engage with customers and grow your audience… The sheer quantity of information available on the social sites requires you to be quick at disseminating relevant content to customers. Sharing of irrelevant information will fail in engaging customers.

All businessmen know the importance of image and reputation. Dissemination of information, views, feedback has become quick and easy due to the Internet. Customers can now post comments in real-time and other customers can read those comments and in real-time too.

Whether you are getting positive reviews or negatives ones, it is essential to be aware of the customer views so that you can respond appropriately and timely.

Make sure you keep the following in mind:

  • Encouraging your customers in spreading good feedback on social media about your business
  • Keep an eye on what the people are saying about your business on the different social media platforms
  • Manage your online reputation by responding timely and accurately to feedback, reviews and posts by the customers
  • Be active in responding to the positive reviews by customers so that relationship with them can be strengthened
  • Timely detect negative feedback so that they can be responded to as soon as possible
  • Appreciate customers giving feedback after using your products/services.

Hopefully, through this article we have proved our point and made you realize the value of social media marketing for your business.
